Westlake-Ruth Lee Van Slyke, 87, died on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in a local care facility.

Ruth was a life-long resident of the Westlake area. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her hospitality to others. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who went out of her way to love her family and friends. She cared for her pets. She was actively involved in working in the yard planting her flowers and gardening. Her most outstanding virtue was she read her Bible faithfully.

Westlake-Ruth Lee Van Slyke, 87, died on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in a local care facility.

Ruth was a life-long resident of the Westlake area. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her hospitality to others. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who went out of her way to love her family and friends. She cared for her pets. Survivors include her five children; Woodrow W. Van Slyke and wife Kay of Sulphur, Richard E .Van Slyke of Leesville, Judy A. Manuel Crosby and husband Ralph of Sulphur, Julia A. Gaskins of Westlake, Beverly F. Clanton and husband Jimmy of Sulphur; four sisters, Beulah Dubose, Elaine Breaux, Faye Roach, Emma Lou Bushnell; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn. W. Van Slyke, Sr.; one son Glenn W. Van Slyke, Jr.; son in laws Bruce Manuel and Garry Morgan, Sr.; sister Mildred Hillard; parents Wattie and Evalena West and stepmother, Emma West.

Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana. Rev. David Gunter will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, January 11, at 5-9 p.m. and continue on Friday at 9 a.m. until service time in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Farquhar Cemetery in Sulphur, Louisiana.
